Washington: Duff Green, 1833. Disbound. Good binding. Item #9990

Reprints some of the Senate debate around the Nullification Crisis including speech of Vice President Calhoun, Senator Webster of MA, and Senator Poindexter of MS who even offers a satirical prewritten speech to President Jackson to rally the Federal troops before they invade South Carolina. Contains extracts of other relevant items. The Nullification Crisis in the face of sectional tariffs is a remarkable (and perhaps pertinent) moment in history and in the States' Rights argument that would reach its crescendo when South Carolina secedes in 1860.
