A Christmas Carol, in Prose, being a Ghost Story of Christmas
New York: Press of the Woolly Whale, 1930. Vellum Binding. Very Good binding. Item #9747
Folio. [6], 78, [4] pp. Limited edition, number 71 of 250 copies. As issued, vellum-backed, cloth boards; small morocco title label on the spine; printer's device in gilt on the vellum of the front cover. Typical mellowing to the vellum; a few spots of abrasion or perhaps silverfishing; label is trifle edgeworn; contents clean but for a few spots of toning.
Started by Melbert Cary in 1928, the Press operated until his death in 1941. This is among the early issues from the Press and constitutes a couple of "firsts": it is the first prose work issued as well as the first folio. A stately edition of Dickens's beloved classic. Klinefelter, Bibliographical Check-List of Christmas Books p. 17.
