Henry Evans, c. 1963. Broadside. Item #9707

Broadside. 14.75" x 11." Signed by Evans at the bottom right. Advertisement printed in black with pink illustration as a background. Old folds with minor creases at two corners, else fine.

Henry Evans (1918-1990), a Bay Area bookseller and owner of Porpoise Books starting printing botanicals in 1958. By the early 1960s he would close his bookstore and focus solely on printmaking for the balance of his career. While this is undated, it is quite early in Evans's career, c. 1963. John Crichton, author of Henry Evans, Bookseller, Printer, Publisher, Printmaker (2019), notes that the Berkeley address was that of Harry Levenson's studio that sold Evans's prints. A beautiful broadside advertisement from the early career of a world-renowned printmaker.
