Manarin is a noted Civil War scholar and editor of numerous works including the massive 13-volume undertaking, North Carolina Troops, 1861-1865: A Roster. This present dissertation is one of his few (if not only) original and substantive analyses, and an interesting, in-depth dive into Lee's command. To our knowledge, it was never published.
