Octavo. 11, [1] pp. In original wrappers. Deaccessioned from the New Jersey Historical Society with stamps as well as ink and pencil notations on the front wrapper and first page; pamphlet folded with creases. A serviceable copy and fairly uncommon in commerce.
An interesting piece of early Ohio and Cincinnati history privately printed by Clarke 80 years after the fact. Thomson notes, "The name L-os-anti-ville, was given by John Filson, schoolmaster and surveyor, and was intended to mean, 'town opposite the mouth of the Licking.' General Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory, on his first visit to the place, January 2d, 1790, changed the name to Cincinnati, in honor of the 'Society of the Cincinnati' of which he was a prominent member" Thomson 232.
