Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents
London: J. Dodsley, 1775. Disbound. Very Good binding. Item #8191
Octavo. [2], 118 pp. Self-styled fifth edition. Removed from volume and inserted into new plain wrappers. Light and occasional foxing, but largely a clean copy of Burke's evenhanded attack of British political system claiming that the court had too much influence on the House of Commons. Burke was a vocal supporter of American colonist's grievances during the American Revolution and supported the repeal of the Stamp Tax in his speech "On American Taxation" (1774). Originally issued in 1770 this remains an early and at the time of this reissue still relevant pamphlet. Sabin 95692; Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
