FOUR YEARS IN THE STONEWALL BRIGADE
Marietta, GA: Continental Book Company, 1951. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Item #7503
12mo. [8], 365 pp., frontis, illus. Second edition. In original cloth. Spine a bit faded, but largely an attractive copy; small area of tape residue on the front free endpaper, otherwise a clean copy.
Harwell calls this, "The best known, quite possibly the best, memoir of the Civil War by a private soldier" (In Tall Cotton 20). Harwell goes on to quote James Robertson's assessment, "The lasting value of this narrative lies in its simplicity, humorous exaggerations, and brutal frankness in describing the intricacies of army life and the horrors of war" (qtd in In Tall Cotton). Not terribly common, even in this reprint of the second edition. Howes C-219; In Tall Cotton 20; CWB I, 68.
