WISE'S DIGESTED INDEX AND GENEALOGICAL GUIDE TO BISHOP MEADE'S OLD CHURCHES, MINISTERS AND FAMILIES OF VIRGINIA, Embracing 6,900 Proper Names

Richmond: Printed at the Evans Press, 1910. Original Wrappers. Fair binding. Item #7440

Octavo. 114 pp. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Wise. Stapled, in original wrappers. Both wrappers are detached and chipped; contents are solid. This copy with previous owner name of Eppa Hunton Jr, with 1917 date on boldly on the front wrapper. Wise has inscribed this on the title page to "Col. Hunton / with compliments of / J. C. Wise and John Hart." A curious inscription as "Col. Hunton" (eventually General Hunton, C.S.A.) had died in 1908. Perhaps this inscription was a gesture or perhaps Wise was unaware of Gen Hunton's passing. Either way, an interesting association of a fairly uncommon index to find in the first edition. Occasional pencil marginalia, likely in the hand of Eppa Hunton IV, grandson of General Hunton. Haynes 21701.

Price: $125.00
