Richmond: West & Johnston, 1862. Quarter Leather. near Very Good binding. Item #7293

12mo. xxvii, [1], 168 pp., plates. Fourth edition, revised and enlarged. Backed in black morocco with cloth over boards; spine titled; all 12 folding plates and single leaf explanations are present; plates show some trivial misfolding; in one instance the plate was tipped directly to a text page, rather than the more generously margined explanation leaf and has begun to the tear the leaf in the inner margin and is obscuring some text. Generally, a well preserved copy with rubbing and soiling the binding, but solid and presentable.

Originally issued in 1836, this is a standard work used in both the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. It was authored by a noted American military engineer and West Point instructor whose influence is evident on the nature of warfare during the Civil War. Oxford American National Biography. Parrish & Willingham 4947.
