Richmond: J. W. Randolph, 1864. Hard Cover. Good binding. Item #6877
12mo. xxiii, , 423, pp. Confederate imprint. An interesting example of a Confederate imprint in that the textblock has been bound into an earlier book's binding and a printed paper label pasted over; a rubbing has been made and the original binding was for Burke's Virginia Mineral Springs (1853). This copy deaccessioned long ago from the Virginia Mechanics Institute; evidence of a label removed on the spine; a stamp on the front pastedown and at least one in the bottom margin of a text page; a note from an early 20th century owner indicating his having purchased this book from the Institute in 1944; an additional bookplate of Lewis D. Crenshaw on the front pastedown; a few folds have been unopened. There is some subtle repair to both hinges but this is largely a sound copy; and a physical reminder of the state of book manufacturing in the Confederacy late in the war. Parrish & Willingham 2369.
