Richmond: Wm. Ellis Jones, 1884. Hard Cover. Good binding. Item #6465
Octavo. 87, [1 (blank)] pp. First edition, signed and inscribed by the author. In publisher's printed wrappers; there are several variants of this book in terms of binding and frontispiece: one of two different frontispieces are found across the edition as well as one variant without frontis. This copy is without frontis and believed to be issued thus. Wrappers are generally chipped and damp-stained; front wrapper is unfortunately chipped at the top edge removing a portion of Loehr's inscription; pencil note below the inscription identifies this as "3d copy" and a stamp on the verso of the title page notes that this is a duplicate from an institution.
An uncommon unit history with a 20+ page unit roster. Nevins calls his reminiscences "an above-average personal narrative on service in Lee's army" CWB I, 122. Though without indication in the book, this copy is from the family library of Confederate General Eppa Hunton. Dornbusch II, 1315; Howes L-425.
