A very bright copy of a modern fine printing of this Wharton classic with beautiful color illustrations serving as head- and tail-pieces. A stunning work out of notable American private press run by Frank Altschul. Ransom, in his Selective Check List of Press Books compares the Overbrook Press to the Strawberry Hill Press the exception being "[i]nstead of Horace Walpole's desire that his books should show 'all the beautiful negligence of a gentleman,' Mr. Altschul substitutes for 'negligence' exceptional qualities of technical excellence" (Ransom p.383-4). That quality is on display here. Garrison A19.12.
