16mo. 143 pp. Confederate imprint; first edition, thus. As issued, in brown cloth with abbreviated title stamped in gold on the front cover and in blind on the rear cover. Light wear, only. A remarkably nice copy; contents clean. Mahan was a noted American military engineer and West Point instructor whose influence is evident on the nature of warfare during the Civil War. This present work was originally issued in 1847, and was reprinted in the South when the publisher refused to sell copies to the Confederacy.
