Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, 1860. Original Wrappers. Good binding. Item #6024

Octavo. 13, [3 (blank)] pp. First edition. As issued, in printed wrappers, this copy appears to have been removed from nonce volume with notches on the spine. Previous owner name, "Hagood" at the top of the front wrapper, one might speculate it relates to the wartime governor of South Carolina. Bottom half of the fore-edge of the pamphlet shows some predation to the margin; generally soiled, but solid. Harwell notes that this "is the document that the South Carolinians of 1860 regarded as a new Declaration of Independence" In Tall Cotton 171. There is another variant as well as a readily distinguishable forgery, but this copy is original and consistent with Parrish & Willingham 3762. Confederate Hundred 85; Sabin 87435; Streeter 1270.

Price: $950.00
