The fugitives in question, "a gang of negroes, seven in number, who have since sought refuge in the colony of New Providence, and are now believed to be at Nassau, in that island" are alleged to have committed robbery and murder in the territory of Florida, "attended by circumstances of peculiar atrocity." The correspondence concerns the request by the United States for the British government to issue a warrant to deliver the fugitives to a U. S. Marshal.
