[Newark], VT: Janus Press, 1992. Broadside. Item #10880

Broadside. 24" x 17." Limited edition, one of 90 copies. Signed by Lopez. Printed dry in black and blue on pulp painting landscape made from kozo, gampi, and abaca fibers. A fine copy.

A beautiful except from Lopez's Arctic Dreams, the pulp painting is a inspired illustrations to Lopez's sentiment: "Whatever evaluation we make of a particular stretch of land, no matter how accurate or profound, it finally proves inadequate. The land retains an identity of its own, still deeper and more subtle than we can know. Our obligation toward it then becomes simple: to approach with an uncalculating mind, with an attitude of regard. To try to sense the range and variety of its expression—its weather and colors and animals. To intend from the beginning to preserve some of the mystery within it as a king of wisdom to be experienced, not questioned. And to be alert for its openings, for that moment when something sacred reveals itself within the mundane, and you know the land knows you are there." Fine, Janus Press — Fifty Years, p. 46.
