Philadelphia: Bryn Michelson-Ziegler, 2021. Wrappers. Fine binding. Item #10586

Octavo. [24] pp., illus. Limited edition, one of 12 variants numbered by hand. In drum-leaf binding with stiff, printed wrappers. Letterpress printed throughout in black and blue using a variety of techniques including pressure printing, hand-set metal type, polymer plates, and linocuts. Given the nature of the printing techniques, not all copies are identical.

An intensely personal book, Michelson-Ziegler explores her experience of receiving an ADHD diagnosis and starting medication. In text, the artist reprints a range of clinical material including brief correspondence between her and her physician, assessment and diagnosis, and medication recommendations—the title is derived from the changing dosage to match her evolving response. This material is interspersed with personal thoughts, responses, and dialog that pull back the curtain on internal struggles. This is illustrated, fittingly, in a diversity of printing techniques, sometimes multiple techniques contributing to the same illustration, all of which combine to create a classic example of form following function—a remarkable book that casts light on the disjointed experience of living with ADHD.
