12mo. 240 pp. Woodward's second edition. In contemporary calf. Heavy wear to the leather at the spine with loss at top and bottom; leather at the front joint is starting to split, but board is holding fairly well; previous owner name has been effaced on the front pastedown and clipped out of the title page; there remains a contemporary owner name at the top of the preface: that of Isabella Henderson; a gathering is protruding from an early section in the book, otherwise, contents are clean but for expected foxing and toning; subscribers list at the rear.

The first American appearance of Johnson's work came from the press of William Woodward in 1795. A second American edition was issued in Wilmington the following year. This work has been variously attributed to Arnaud Berquin and Rev. Mr. Cooper. ESTC, Welch, and others have attributed authorship to Johnson. Evans 33568; Welch 669.3; ESTC W17934.
